What is PDEA in the Philippines?

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (or PDEA for short) is a government agency under the Office of the President that is in charge of enforcing the law on all provisions on dangerous drugs and its precursors.. It is the implementing arm of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB)

Among other things, the functions of PDEA include implementing the national drug control strategy developed by the DDB, enforce the provisions indicated in the Article II of Republic Act 9165, arrest and apprehend drug violators, take custody of drug paraphernalia that have been seized and/or confiscated, and prepare the filing of criminal and civil cases for drug violations.

The agency is currently being headed by Director General Wilkins M. Villanueva. PDEA’s headquarters is located at the PDEA Building, NIA Northside Road, Brgy. Pinyahan, Quezon City.

PDEA rank classification

The PDEA is headed by a director general with the position of an undersecretary. The director-general is assisted by two assistant secretaries who also hold the rank of deputy director-general.

PDEA salary grade 2024

The Salary Standardization Law (SSL) V in the Philippines standardizes salaries across all government agencies, including the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

For 2024, the salary grades in the Philippines have been updated. The salary structure is extensive, covering a wide range of grades and steps. For example, Salary Grade 1 starts at PHP 10,229 at Step 1, and the salaries increase progressively with each grade and step. Higher grades, such as Salary Grade 27, begin at PHP 107,327 at Step 1 and also increase with each step. This structure is part of the effort to promote efficiency, accountability, and excellence among government employees.

Here’s a quick guide on PDEA agent salary. For example, the PDEA Intelligence Officer 1 salary is Php 23,877 which is in Salary Grade 11. The PDEA Intelligence Officer 2 salary is Php 32,053 which is in Salary Grade 15. In addition, the PDEA K9 handler salary is around Php 24,273 to Php 41,611 per month. That’s the K9 handler PDEA salary.

The PDEA basic salary is Php 23,877 for Intelligence Officer 1 which is an entry-level position for agents.

PDEA hiring 2024

PDEA is currently looking for Intelligent Officer 1! To qualify for this position, you must be 21 to 35 years of age, a baccalaureate degree holder, and eligible for a Career Service Second Level position. There is also a PDEA qualifying exam and neuro-physical examination.

PDEA hiring requirements for agents

The PDEA Academy extends an invitation to passionate individuals aged 21 to 35, with a minimum height requirement of 5’2″ for males and 5′ for females. But don’t fret if you can’t meet the height requirement: you can submit a National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP)-issued certificate of confirmation if you are under-height and an Indigenous person.

The qualifications include holding a Baccalaureate degree, eligibility for Career Service Second Level Position, and possessing a good moral background. Aspiring agents should demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication skills, be computer literate, and commit to undergoing a rigorous 6-month training program.

If you’re interested in becoming a PDEA agent, you need to prepare an application letter addressed to Director General Moro Virgilio M Lazo along with the Personal Data Sheet (PDS). The completed PDS (CSC Form Number 212), downloadable from the official website, should include contact details.

Applications can be forwarded to the nearest PDEA Regional Office, personally delivered to the PDEA Academy Liaison Office in Quezon City, or sent via courier to the PDEA Academy in Cavite. Alternatively, applications can be emailed to deo.recruitment@pdea.gov.ph.

PDEA K9 Handler Requirements

If you want to work with drug-sniffing dogs, then being a PDEA K9 handler might be the perfect job for you! Here are the PDEA K9 handler qualifications:

• 23 to 26 years old
• At least a high school graduate
• Physically fit
• Dog or animal lover
• Willing to undergo six months of training in Antipolo and Bulacan
• Willing to sign a two-year service obligation
• Willing to be assigned anywhere in the Philippines

Here are the PDEA K9 handler requirements:

• An application letter addressed to the PDEA director general
• Accomplished personal data sheet (PDS)
• Copy of diploma/transcript of records
• Birth certificate from NSO or PSA

You can also join the PDEA Academy if you want to become a drug law enforcer. Located inside the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) in Silang, Cavite, the PDEA Academy is responsible for recruiting and training prospective PDEA agents.
