Key takeaways:

  • As a last resort, you can apply for financial help from a loan company.

Being a single mom or a single dad can be challenging but rewarding. After all, it has been proven time and time again that single parents can guide their children into being productive members of society even outside the confines of marriage or partnerships.

Even if you’re raising your child without a spouse or partner, your family resources should not be limited. You can find support in other family members, friends or in your community. In addition, the government will be more than willing to extend you benefits that will help you and your child.

One of the most important benefits from the government is a solo parent ID. With this ID, you can claim subsidies, discounts, scholarships and programs for you and your child. Your rights as a single parent has also been expanded, and protections are in place to guard you against discrimination.

In this blog post, we will explore the solo parent ID, its benefits and how to get one.

Is a solo parent ID a valid ID?

Unfortunately, the solo parent ID is not considered a valid ID in the Philippines. You can only use it to claim benefits and privileges as set by the government. You cannot use it to prove your identity; you will still need other government-issued IDs for this purpose.

However, some banks and lending companies may ask that you provide additional IDs on top of your primary ones just to verify your identity. In this case, you may present your solo parent ID.

Digido does not accept solo parent IDs when applying for loans, but you can present the following during your application:

  • Driver’s license
  • Passport
  • UMID ID
  • SSS ID
  • TIN ID
  • New Philhealth card (PVC-type)
